In the run up to the 500th Anniversary of the Royal Town's Charter from Henry VIII in 2028, Sutton Coldfield Heritage Network are running an annual fundraising Royal Variety concert and exhibition. The inaugural event is Sat 5 April 2025, 7.30pm at Bishop Vesey's Grammar School.
Sutton Coldfield Heritage Network have asked Sutton Coldfield Rugby Club to support reaching Dads, Lads and Grandads that are interested in being part of a male voice choir that will perform at the Royal Variety concert.
Based on feedback from a Sutton all-age pop-up male voice choir pilot, we are recruiting boys Y3+ and men from Sutton Coldfield to form a rugby-based pop-up male voice choir to sing in the Royal Variety concert. Main comments from the men and boys at that time described their choir as an ace experience with all the fun but minimal commitment.
No singing or music experience is required. There are 4 x 90 min rehearsals during March weekends (avoiding Six Nations and club fixtures). Musical director, Martin, is a DBS'd music teacher, very used to working with singers of experience and those with none. One piece being is 'Can't buy me love' by the Beatles with a live band. Performance wear is club rugby shirt.
